National Children's Dental Health Month

This month’s newsletter will be a little different.  There’s so much new I want to tell you about there won’t be a dental health tip include.  Instead I want to tell you about what my office is doing for National Children’s Dental Health Month, as well as a new program only available in our office for patients who do not have dental insurance.

Here’s something I found that is so appropriate for this month’s attention toward children’s dental health.

A tooth fell out, and left a space
So big my tongue could touch my face.
And every time I smile, I show
a space where something used to grow.
I miss my tooth as you can guess
But then, I have to brush one less!

In addition to being Children’s Dental Health Month, it’s also Valentines Day on February 14.  Be sure to remember your sweetheart.  Might I suggest a beautiful bouquet of flowers or gift card instead of a box of chocolates?  Your teeth will appreciate it, and so will your waist-line.

Children's Healthy Teeth

Last month you read about a “Baby’s Toothless Grin”, it discussed getting a baby started on the path of good oral health.  Well, February is National Children’s Dental Health Month to promote good oral health in all young children, and we’re participating in this annual event.  The American Dental Association has an initiative each February to raise the awareness of the need for children to brush regularly.  Unfortunately there is an epidemic of untreated oral decease among disadvantage children.

You’re likely to see these posters in our office this month.

When you see them, be reminded to help the cause and promote regular dental care with your children.  Below are several links you can follow to download coloring sheets to provide your children.  It’s an opportunity for you to spend some ‘together time’ with your kids, and it gives you the chance to talk about their teeth and how important it is to take care of them… especially those baby teeth.

It’s Not Potty Training

Potty training your child might be one of the biggest challenges for a parent of young kids.  Getting them to brush their teeth isn’t as challenging, but it does take attention and dedication.  An excellent way to promote it is through positive reinforcement.  Kids like to receive awards.  Here’s a “Healthy Smile Certificate” you can download to help motivate your child.  Print it out, have them color it, and set a goal for them to receive the award.  It could be brushing their teeth once a day for a week and they receive one “Health Smile Certificate”.  Print more, color more and reward them.  Before you know it it’ll be a regular part of their routine.  Good luck and make it fun for both of you.

The coloring sheets and the “Healthy Smile Certificate” are fun, though we’re taking an active role in helping promote good dental health in children, and helping you get them brushing their teeth more regularly.  This month, we’re offering FREE checkup exams for kids’ ages 3 to 14.  The exams are scheduled for only specific days, so follow this link to our website for more details on the exams and to schedule your child’s free checkup today.

No Insurance?  Try Our Dental Plan

Everyone is entitled to good dental health, though not everyone has dental insurance plans to rely on to pay for their health care needs.  Those who don’t have dental insurance often go without regular dental checkups and care.  In response to this growing need I’ve put together two “In-office” dental plans.  Adults can receive the minimum annual requirements to maintain a clean, healthy smile, as well as children.  These ‘pre-paid’ plans cover preventative care.  There are no requirements other than the ability to pre pay the annual plans.  Patients can recognize at least a 22% savings from the standard office visits.  To learn more about the plans for adults and children, and to signup to save hundreds of dollars for preventative treatment go to our “In Office Dental Plans” web page.
